Lady Caroline Wynn has been widowed after a brief but painful marriage with a husband who was both physically and verbally abusive. When the Duke of Rothay, Nicholas Manning and Earl of Manderville, Derek Drake get involved with a very public bet about who's better in bed it piques her interest. Her husband was so insulting about her ineptitude in the bedroom that she decides to challenge the two infamous men to let her find out who's the best. She hopes to find out if the weakness in her marriage was her fault. Instead all three find out something even more important.

Emma Wildes again crafts a tale that's fast moving and fun. Derek is in love but has hurt the woman he wants, perhaps irreparably. Nicholas and Caroline have both had disastrous relationships in the past that make it difficult for them to trust. Ms. Wildes gets the three to change their minds in a way that's full of action and romance. It's no surprise that the people who care about Nicholas and Derek see what the men are going through long before they realize it themselves. As in all good stories there's a villain who's despicable. The author helps put him in his place in a way that should be very satisfying for the reader.

We can't help but become emotionally involved in the story. So many human failings come close to smothering the feelings of the two couples who seem so right for one another. Thomas and Margaret Wade, Nicholas' mother, Wuw, Caroline's driver and other secondary characters play important roles in making this work. Ms. Wildes excels at her craft. This is another of her books I couldn't put down.
