Celeste Rice needs help. A man that she dated briefly is obsessed with her and has followed her from Vermont to her hometown in Colorado. She and Deputy Mick McGilvary have a history together, though they haven't seen each other in ten years. The attraction was there then and is even stronger now. Ten years ago Celeste had a problem with Mick's profession, but he is not going to let her run away from him again. Unfortunately her ex is not going to let her get away either and is willing to kill to keep her.

Ms. Agnew has outdone herself with this story. The combination of a scorching hot romance and edge of your seat suspense story is an unbeatable combination and no one writes this type of story better. Celeste and Mick both had a rough start in life. Celeste lost her mother in a bank robbery and her father to depression afterward. She ended up with her aunt who turned her life around. Mick's alcoholic and abusive father killed his mother and ended up in jail making it possible for him to be adopted by the McGilvarys. Defending Celeste from a near rape landed him in juvie, but he is now not only a deputy but a member of the SWAT team. The author has a good feel for the law enforcement profession and is very good at building the suspense throughout the story. The ex, Darrell, is very creepy and his profession as a psychologist makes him even more so, particularly when he uses his position to sabotage Celeste's job hunt. The chemistry between Celeste and Mick is incredibly strong and the love scenes are very sensual. I also liked the other characters like Celeste's friend Leslie and Mick's two brothers. The tension between Leslie and Craig is very intriguing.
