Have you ever decided to read a book knowing you know the outcome? Have you ever read a book in a certain subgenre that you have read plenty of but still feel like, maybe I should try one more and see if it's just me or that it's the subgenre that bores me? Have you ever read a book and decided that is was one of the best darn books that you have read in a long time, regardless of the genre? Insatiable by Cari Quinn is that book for me. Ms. Quinn's spin on the subgenre of friends to lovers was original, fresh and emotional.

The story starts with Rachel Cooper and Shawn Griffin being destined at birth to marry by their families. The families have been friends forever and it just seemed that their parents knew that they would marry. Someone forgot to tell Rachel this when she was growing up. Shawn fell in love with Rachel years ago but decided that their friendship was more important. Then Shawn did something that he had wanted to do for years, he kissed her. When Rachel got an invitation to see an old boyfriend in New York, she jumps at the chance. She figures that distance would be a good thing for her. When she tells Shawn, he informs her that he will be her chaperone to New York. What ensues is a game of cat and mouse.

While in New York, Rachel has to take a really hard look at herself and her relationship with Shawn. She realizes that she has taken for granted that Shawn would always be there for her. She always realizes that her feelings for Shawn scare her and therefore, denies that the first time that they have sex means anything to her. Shawn knew the moment that he had her that he was truly gone.

I can't get these characters and this story out of my head. While the sex scenes between Rachel and Shawn where on fire and then some, it was the dialogue, the emotions and the thoughts of Rachel and Shawn that I kept coming back for. The secondary characters were also richly thought out and flat out hilarious. The pacing and climax were pitch perfect, too.

I highly recommend this friends to lovers story for anyone that has had seconds thoughts on the subgenre. You will not be disappointed. In Ms. Quinn's hands, its Insatiable.
