| Lady Katryn is more aware than most of the responsibility of political duty. Her father was ambassador to Vesperi, and the weretiger culture is all she’s known. Now she is to go back to Harena and fulfill a political match that mates her to Lord Nadir. But weredragons form harims and Katryn has no idea what to expect. She longs for the kind of love her friends have found. When she discovers a harim is a three-way bond and that she will join Lord Nadir with another male, she wishes it could be Tarkesh. Sometimes wishes come true.
Wereplanets: In Smoke is part of a series set on futuristic planets where the peoples who have survived the demise of Earth are now animal hybrids. Harena is populated by weredragons. Varad and Mahlia from the previous story make an early appearance, it’s nice to see how their life is going. Nadir and Tarkesh are as devoted a pair as any romance tale offers. Their love scenes are tender but also have the intense edge I imagine two male weredragons would find satisfying. They are both strong but also have the characteristics of successful negotiators, so their anxiety regarding the changes that a harim will bring seem natural and gives the story emotional depth and interest. Katryn is is very independent. She never had the opportunity to learn Harena customs or culture. So everything is strange and almost overwhelming. Along with the emotional parting from Mahlia, she is dealing with an overload of sensations and feelings. When Tarkesh escorts her to the capital, he presents an irresistible temptation by satisfying her curiosity about weredragon culture as well as igniting her passions. She falls in love with him despite thinking she cannot have him. Imagine the fireworks when she discovers he is indeed the second male in her harim. Nadir is not slow to claim her attention and when the three of them indulge their dragon-instincts, it is one hot, fiery threesome! The conclusion was most satisfying. Wereplanets: In Smoke was a great bit of sexy entertainment.
