| Sandy Mann manages the Inn of Quiet Repose, on the Canadian shore. He is a lonely gay supernatural whose passionate exercise arises solely from DVD’s. He’s been partner-less for 37 years, since his mere presence seems to result in instant narcolepsy. His employer is Morpheus, God of Sleep, who is straight and not gay; but when Morpheus pops into Sandy’s office on a visit and discovers Sandy is otherwise occupied, his boss decides now is a fine time to solve Sandy’s longstanding problem. It’s time for the services of the Paranormal Mates Society. Flipping through the men-seeking-men profiles, Sandy spots a Native American, whose long platinum hair, and two snowflake-and-crescent-moon tattoos mark him in Sandy’s eyes as a hottie!
In the meantime, Pe-Ben, God of Winter of the Abenaki tribe in Maine, is preparing to leave his ice cave home at the onset of Spring. The Spring Goddess is convinced the two should mate, and refuses to acknowledge that Pe-Ben is gay. He too sends others into a state of sleep, which works well for soothing angry tribesmen, but is difficult in a relationship. Pe-Ben is impressed with the vibe sent via PMS from PillarsofSand, and determines a spring stay at the resort might be a promising venture. This is a sizzling yet humorous story, intriguingly weaving gods of varying pantheons into a plot revolving around two desperately lonely and seeking individuals. It’s easy to relate to both Sandy and Pete, because both have such high standards coupled with such low expectations. Both have long anticipated an eternity of solitude, but lo, the sparks when the two meet and unite!
