| This is the story of Rory Sinclair McGregor and four women that loved him. Sin returns from the war to find that his fiancé is married to the one man he despised and expecting a child. He was also to discover that his home had been sold for back taxes and purchased by the same man. Through the evil machinations of his grandmother he is encouraged to kill this man and take back is home. Sinclair’s grandmother does no care if Sinclair is killed in the attempt to take back the family home, to her way of thinking, so much the better.
In The Wind’s Eye by Charlotte Boyett-Compo is a marvelously written story of evil, secrets, and manipulation. Intriguing in everyway this story has so many twists and turns you never know what is going to happen next. The characters are richly developed and each adds to the story from their view point. After reading one third of the book I began to be depressed thinking nothing good was ever going to happen for poor Sinclair. By this time I felt horrible for all he had been through, if I had only known then what was coming. Secrets are revealed one after another, each more devastating than the last. By now I was so enthralled with my reading I could not put it down. I just had to find out what was going to happen next. The evil of one woman and all she does to control her family was hard to imagine. But even as I write this I picture clearly how she was described in the story and through the author’s words see the evil of her face. Especially right before the end I could imagine the look of someone possessed, as she is so described. My last thought as I finished reading was, “Oh. My. God,” for even then secrets is revealed. In The Wind’s Eye is a totally fascinating look at one family during the post Civil War era. Through the dialogue and description of the settings by the author the era comes to life for the reader. Enthralling, fascinating, a tale of evil that totally captivates the reader, In the Wind’s Eye is a book I highly recommend to all.
