A Pirate's Life, Stephanie Bedwell-Grime
Adrian has been a vampire for a long time, long enough that he regrets some of the things he'd done in the past. He's trying to repent by helping out humankind, in particular a man that he had saved from a gang of thugs a while ago. It just so happened that the guy was a police officer named Frazier, and when Adrian saved him, he became a friend. When Adrian gets a call from Frazier about a new and unusual case, he has to help. In the process, he unexpectedly meets Kiana, the partner Frazier had been keeping him from. After Adrian meets her, he begins to understand why he was so anxious to keep him away from her.

Great story, it has lots of action and a good story line. The characters never really clicked for me, but nonetheless it had no problem keeping me glued to the computer. I don't know how I would feel in Kiana's place, I know that if I had a partner that over protective, it would infuriate me too. Great addition to the anthology.

Adopt a Demon, Ashley Ladd
Meg loved Halloween, and all that goes with it. It's even better when her best friend and cousin visits her from Vegas. Lucy and her go out on the town, and when they come back they are a little drunk. Tired of Lucy making fun of her "cutsy" decorations, Meg starts surfing the internet and comes up with a really interesting site called "adopt a demon". Lucy starts to get nervous, but Meg decides to teach her a lesson and adopts one. Imagine her surprise when one actually comes out of her computer! Even worse, he claims to be her long lost soul mate, Jason, the man who has been visiting her in her dreams. But she has more to worry about than the demon she's called up, because he's not the only one, and if they don't stop the other demons the world will come to an end.

Interesting, to say the least. The demon world that Ashley Ladd comes up with is complex and different, with half demons and full demons. Meg is an interesting character, able to take surprises in stride. I thought the story kind of rushed along, but it had a lot of good ideas and characters that kept it appealing.

The Sacrifice, S.A Martin
Briana has been chosen to be the sacrifice for Samhain eve to keep the demons from killing everyone in the village. Every year, the most beautiful woman in the village is chosen by the druid priests to be sacrificed. She is warned by her caretaker that it is going to happen, and flees west. Weylyn has been a druid enforcer for years, and is one of the best. When he hears that Briana has fled, he knows it's his duty to bring her back. It will be one of the most difficult things he's ever done, because he knows Briana, and has cared for her for a long time. Will Briana be sacrificed? Or is there a better way?

The sex in this one is relatively mild and vanilla. It's a sweet love story that tugs at your heartstrings. They both have problems to solve, and they go about it in a different way than you expect. I think that it is quite a bit different than the rest of the anthology, but still a charming read.

The Seductress, C.H. Scott
Colette has saved a man from a group of thugs getting ready to kill him. She's a witch with supernatural powers, but in order to use them to her fullest she has to have her necklace. The very man she tries to save ends up betraying her and stealing her necklace. This forces her to be at his beck and call, and seduce the men he chooses for her. Ten years later, when she meets his son Adrian, she's only looking for a little revenge and her necklace. She never expects to fall for Adrian.

I liked this story because C.H. Scott made no bones about the fact that Colette does get used for ten years. No one shows up and miraculously saves her before she has to do bad things. Colette is a strong person, who has managed to prosper despite what has been done to her. Adrian is young in this story, about ten years younger than Colette, which is a different twist on a love story than I am used to seeing. An fascinating addition to the anthology, I really enjoyed reading it.
