| Intimate Weapons is the story of a poor woman who has had her memories stripped from her as her body has been filled with nanites with a mysterious power. Jovita Rees, is a woman without a past, fleeing those who seek to use her. Presumed dead by those she knew before, and with no memories other than her name, she seeks refuge with Vanden Ambassador and First Advisor to the Regent of Vanden, Mallic Telonis. Not quite trusting the naked woman he finds in his stateroom, but recognizing her distress, he agrees to offer her political asylum.
The characters in this story are well-thought out and believable. You continually feel for Jovita Rees as she tries to gain something of her past. She does not fall into despair or whine as some heroines in her position might be allowed to do. She's a strong woman and does not just allow the hero to take complete charge of everything. She believes in fighting to try to find out about herself and her past, and does not allow anyone to run roughshod over her, nor does she seem to just take anything at face value. The hero Mallic Telonis, though reputed to be a womanizing lady's man, did not really show very many chauvinistic characteristics. He did not fall immediately for the heroine, but tried to fight it, not knowing if she was telling the truth. The story line was easy to follow. Though there were a few times as I was reading I felt as if I had missed something, it was not absolutely necessary to read the previous novel, it was still an extremely good read on its own. The story flowed, there was just enough romance to counter-balance the action. I found myself rooting for the hero and heroine, waiting impatiently to turn the page to see what would come next. Definitely a book I would recommend.
