Chris Jackson loves being a fire-fighter. When he arrives at the latest one and finds himself pulling his ex-fiancée out of the burning building, he can't believe his eyes. Three years ago, she gave him back the ring yet still he hasn't been able to get over the fact of letting her slip away since he still loves her.

If there's one thing Ally Gallant loves, it's the work she does at an animal shelter. But when a fire rips through the building where all the animals are held, she finds herself left with nothing. However, when her ex-fiancée Chris rescues her, she realises she's still in love with him. Yet she's running scared again because of the dangers of his job and the fact that she might lose him just like she did her sister to an accident.

Having read the other two books in this series, there was no way I was missing out on this one. The plot started off with a bang through the fire that Ally was trapped in. It just kept getting better from there through the strong yet emotional dialogue because of their past break-up and the accident that ended Ally's sister's life. The sex scenes were hot and illustrated the great chemistry that had been between them for years very well. What I liked so much about Ally was her dedication to the animal shelter and how she thrived in making sure it was a success in the community. While with Chris, I liked that he stood up for Ally to the people that thought she hadn't made anything of her life even though their relationship had been over for years.

Overall, Ms. Alward has again done an exceptional job in penning another novel in this series known as the First Responders series and I can't wait to read more novels of her novels in the future.
