| Tyne Faran Kilbraun is a prince, the youngest of seven sons, and the keeper of the Word and protector of the sacred relics. Though leading an easy life, he feels strongly about his duties and honor. So when the ancient sword and shield are stolen under his protection, he sets out to get them back and regain his honor. Fate send him on a detour to an island where he meets Leanora, a beautiful woman, scarred both emotionally and physically. In an uneasy truce, on Leanora's side, they set off to restore the relics and fight side-by-side against an ancient evil. Along the journey, they find love and redemption in each other's arms.
Faran and Leanora are both very likable characters. The author made them uncomplicated, therefore easy to understand and relate to. For the same reason, they are not very memorable. Faran's treatment of her as both a woman and a comrade-in-arms is heartwarming especially when she starts to trust him back. I found Faran to be a sweetheart who faced the upcoming adventure with childlike enthusiasm but danger like a warrior and in the midst of this all, he still found time to treat Leanora like a woman by bringing her small things and taking care of her needs more than his own. Leanora is a survivor who took a while to find herself, get comfortable with her skin under Faran's care. She balanced him out with caution and planning, making them a perfect match for each other. Their attraction is felt from the start but takes time in coming together. He heals her and she brings him honor. The adventure itself is pleasant with some twists and turns and a slight touch of paranormal to it. What I didn't like was the twist of religion in it. The spreading of Christianity against Pagan beliefs. It was a tad bit confusing read for me since I do not know much of that era. But I would say it was a very daring attempt by the author and I applaud it. If she writes any future books with same backdrop, I would like to read them to get a feel of the era a couple of decades after Christ. Overall, though not a keeper, this is a good book for a light read.
