Twenty-two years old Amethyst Morgan had loved Andrew Bowen for so long that at fifteen she blurted out her love for him. He had rejected her, which had hurt very deeply. Amy, Tony and his brother Andrew, had developed a friendship since they first came to Yewbank after their parents had been killed in an accident and their Aunt Mary had raised them after that. Yewbank is a small country village where everyone knows each other and their private business also. Andrew had moved to Melbourn when he got older, leaving Tony and Amy in the country, where they naturally gravitated to boy and girlfriend and then to fiancé to fiancée. It was expected that they would marry, but Amy never forgot her first love, and now that he was back, the old sparks began to heat up. Somehow Amy thought that she was over Andrew, but a few kisses from Tony never turned up the heat in her blood as Andrew's did. Maybe that was why she had not been intimate with Tony and her heart said that she would love him always--like a brother! Now Andrew was back. He acted like he wanted to break them up and that he wanted her, but could a country mouse win his heart after he had known sophisticated women?

Andrew Bowen knew that he had hurt Amy deeply by rejecting her teenage crush. He had had no knowledge of how to let her down easily without fatherly guidance. Now he was back only to find that she was engaged to his brother and his blood boiled! Was he too late to win back the woman/girl he had loved always? Would she ever forgive him and give him another chance?

Tricia McGill writes a tender love story that will melt your heart and have you wanting to smack some sense into Amy and shaking your head at how dense she is. Irresistible Challenge is good reading, especially when you turn inward to look at yourself and your insecurities.
