| Erik Steppenwolf was asked by an old friend for help solving her son's murder. The search for answers plunges Erik into Houston's world of drag queens and hustlers. He enlists the help of a flamboyant drag queen, Lola, who introduces him to the street hustlers who may have the answers Erik needs to solve the murder. At one of Lola's shows, Erik meets a dancer named Red. While Erik and Red begin a relationship, he is also following the twists and turns that lead him to finding the murderer. The path of love never runs smoothly though and while the murder is solved, Erik and Red break up. Can the two men solve their problems before it's too late?
This is one of those mysteries that keeps you guessing until the very end and then it leaves you saying "Oh my God I can't believe that happened." The book has wonderful plot full of more twists and turns than a ride at the amusement park. While it did tend to drag in some spots, it was still worth the time it takes to read the story. The characters are all unique and the authors brings out their flaws and fears wonderfully, while some of the secondary characters do add some comedic relief to story and keep it from taking itself too seriously. I did like the character of Erik. He is somewhat defective when it comes to his personal life yet likeable. Red on the other hand didn't have a lot of depth to him, so we were left never really knowing to much about him. There are some m/m situations throughout the book but nothing to explicit, but there are some implied circumstances that are questionable. This book will really appeal to the true mystery lover, it has the feel of an old fashioned murder mystery in a modern day setting.
