| Meredith Cross and her little pack run Haven a jazz club in Chicago. Though Meredith and her two biological sons are pure wolf, the rest of the pack are half breeds. Purist wolves and bounty hunters are a danger to them. Meredith was the victim of a forced mating and has no wish to suffer another one. Wolves rarely live in cities, so they have been relatively safe until now. Isaiah Striker is in the city to collect his sister in law and his new Alpha's belongings and finds himself in Haven one night. He is immediately drawn to the beautiful Meredith and wonders why they are all so secretive. He is determined to wear down Meredith's defenses despite her family's discouragement. Bounty hunters in the area threaten both Isaiah and the inhabitants of Haven and Isaiah just can't bring himself to complete his task and leave.
I haven't read the rest of this series but I definitely will. The book stands alone very well but I just cannot get enough of this author's take on the werewolf. Isaiah is a very compelling character and very much the alpha wolf. I loved how he could be a vicious killer with those who threatened his family and so gentle with Meredith. He is an incredibly sympathetic character with sadness in his past. Meredith has escaped her previous life and saved a number of half breed werewolves. She has kept them all safe despite the dangers of bounty hunters, and purist wolves who would kill her half breeds. She is also in danger of being forced into another unwanted mating. She is an independent woman and pack alpha and determined to stay that way. The plot is an engrossing one, with hot love scenes and suspenseful action packed moments also. This is one of the best werewolf romances I have read this year.
