A house in Vine, California has stood empty for much of it's recent life. Well, except for a ghost who isn't always very friendly. As an actress who was murdered she's not passing on until someone pays for the wrong done to her. She's not very nice about how she asks those around her for help either. Mia James just wants to get the story of Mayor Cooper Worthington behind his public persona as he gets ready to run for Congress.

Kenya Carlton pens a tale that could be so exceptional. She builds her characters and scenarios well. The story of rich people who won't let anything stand in the way of their personal goals never gets old. Her vivid portray of people and ghost brings them to life in a way that makes it easy to visualize them in all their gore or glory.

My problem in reading this is that transition from scene to scene is often so awkward a page needs to be reread to figure out what‘s going on. Characters aren't often identified well enough to know who's involved as we have ghosts inhabiting the people around them at odd times. The struggle to understand what's going on spoils what could be a great read.

There's the haunted house, excellent characters, and evil done to someone that should be made better. Both the nastiness done in the past and that still perpetrated on innocent victims in the present. There's blossoming romance and a setting in the wine country of California that comes to life. All of the ingredients are here for a book that's worth reading if you don't mind struggling a bit at times.
