| Syndee has lived a life deprived of love. As a small child, she learned to depend solely on herself and learned to value her solitude. Despite her barren upbringing, Syndee has an incredible empathic gift and an unlimited store of compassion. It is this empathic ability combined with her compassion that ultimately lands her in the arms of Cole, a powerful barely restrained weircat leader. Cole is volatile and unstable, but the calming effect of a mate is just what he needs to unite his pard. To his surprise, his mate turns out to be a feisty human woman who values her solitude as well as her independence. Will Syndee and Cole be able to overcome their reservations and give their love a chance?
For starters, I truly enjoyed this book. It started out a bit awkwardly, but steadily morphed into a great story. Though the beginning was a little bizarre and I was unsure what was going on, the action right out of the gate was enough to reel me in. I found myself anxiously turning pages to see what was going to happen next. The story’s foundation was strong, though more information on the history and politics of the pard would have gone a long way. Enough was given to understand the basics of the culture but a broader picture would have been appreciated. I loved the characters and the passion between Cole and Syndee was beyond explosive. I loved the way the author stoked the flames and built the anticipation of the coupling so completely. By the time the pair mated I was on the edge of my seat. In addition, the supporting characters played a nice part in the story. I look forward to reading more of Zach’s story. Overall, I loved this book and look forward more in what I’m sure is going to be a great series.
