Sanika is a priestess that is about to be sacrificed to the gods as a replacement. She has decided to save a child, and now she is taking that childs place, involuntarily. The priest is a power hungry despot, determined to gain even more power by sacrificing a priestess for all to see. He thinks that sacrifice will make the rains come that have been gone for so long, but he couldn't be more wrong. Balam has been sent by the goddess that Sanika serves to save her and kill the priest. When he sees Sanika, he instantly desires her. Will she accept him as he is?

Myths and Legends: Jaguar is a good story that has a lot going for it. I liked Sanika, who isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes, whether or not it costs her life. Balam is a strong character who I would want to have in my corner in a fight. The story started out well, but I thought Sanika and Balam acted out of character at the end with Karak. That being said, it was a great story that seemed to flow from one scene to the next with little effort. I would definitely recommend Jaguar, it was a great book to read.
