Hope Whitaker’s life was finally coming together again—she had completed her NY bar exam, was engaged to a man hand-picked by her late father, and, even though her mother abandoned her when she was seven years old, she was able to foresee her future in New York City. Then she got word that her mother had died and she was her only benefactor; she had to go and sell the bar and the house and return to her planned life. She had no time for reminiscing about a lost childhood or a posthumous attempt to get her forgiveness.

When Harrison Wiley picked her up at the airport, he immediately treated her like he had known her for years. Even the townspeople and all Janine’s friends acted like they knew all about Hope’s life. She panicked when she was left alone in her mother’s home, so Harrison helped her “make it through the night!”

Ms Taylor Voltaire’s plot has such an interesting concept and it is a wonderful read! I had trouble putting it down. The interactions of those closest to Janine, both in and out of the R&R Bar, were connected as small-town people can become. There is a bond between many who live and work and play together and this group was no exception. There were escapades they got into when they were kids which all involved Hope’s mom; there was one big secret that Harrison had to explain to her. When he was called out of town, well, you can imagine.

Ms. Voltaire has managed to maintain the tension Hope has to endure and to counteract that with the love and acceptance of her mom’s friends to her. This is an exciting read and you will be glad to have taken the time to check out this book and its author!
