After sixteen years away, Jasper Wayne McNeil, Jr., better known as Jazz, moved back to his home town to find some answers. He had to know what happen the night he’d killed his best friend, Alexander Kincaid, driving while intoxicated. Several things about that night didn’t add up. Jazz hadn’t counted on Alex’s little sister, Anne-Marie, still loving him after sixteen years. Jazz had dreamed of Ann-Marie all that time too. He’d married and had a daughter, but his wife died of cancer after only two years together. Now a renowned author and a father, Jazz has returned to confront his demons, solve the mystery of Alex’s death, and to try to make amends.

What a wonderful story! The dynamic plot filled with mystery, intrigue, cat fights, fist fights, a crooked cop, serial murders, passion, true love, angst and longing is a perfectly executed roller coaster ride of excitement that doesn’t slow or miss a beat until the ride is over. I cried, I laughed and then I cried some more. I was immediately drawn into the story with complex and endearing characters that felt so real they were people I dearly cared for. Even the many secondary characters were vibrantly alive. Jazz’s return sparked a string of murders that seemed to make no sense and have no connection, leaving the whole town edgy and frightened, especially the guilty parties. When all the suspects had been murdered as well, I wasn’t sure what to think. The story has more twists and turns than your average tornado and left me feeling just as dizzy. In the end everything worked out satisfactorily; the questions were answered, the riddles puzzled through and love conquered all. This is a must read.
