| Jessie Seville wakes from a nightmare about her best friend Lili 's safety to travel from Dallas, Texas to the village of Vandeburg, Romania, which lies in the region bordering Transylvania. All of their lives, Jessie and Lili Von Eyssen have been closer than sisters. Grant Seville, Jessie’s dad, tries to get her to wait until he can go with her, but Jessie feels that if she does not go and something happens she will never forgive herself. Jessie also feels as if something waits in Rumania for her, something that has been missing all of her life. Jessie meets Prince Viktor Brincoveanu, a wonderful and romantic Lamia, whose dark and sad eyes draws her heart and open her memories to older times. This causes her to dream of Gabrielle’s wedding and her groom, Viktor. Jessie/Gabrielle and Viktor's love is tested and the reader truly prays it is everlasting. Viktor re-introduces her to the memories of their love. Not all goes smoothly, outside forces conspire to destroy Viktor, so the reader sits on the edge of the seat. Through it all, Viktor’s nephew, Roman and Lili’s support the couple, but their budding romance seems fragile. Time will have to tell if it will be everlasting.
This romance is destined to be one of my favorites. I love both Jessie/Gabrielle and Viktor. Viktor is honorable but sees himself as evil and abandoned by God. He has loved one woman, his wife Gabrielle who he forces away from his side to save her soul. Jessie/Gabrielle is passionate and when she loves, it is unconditional, unquestioning, and everlasting. Not even her death quenched her love so many years ago and now that she has found Viktor again, she is willing to take any chance to be with him again. This is the love all of us wants and dreams of.
