| Elena is an accomplished thief. She's in it for the thrill of putting one
over on her marks. From a high-class background, she blends in well at the
parties she attends in order to scope out the locations of the safes or
other valuables. With her partner's assistance, she acquires the
combinations to a particular company's safes, using them to get in and out
quickly. She's never been caught, never been suspected, and is extremely
proud of that fact. So when her partner's combination doesn't work for
their latest caper, Elena's doesn't understand. Nor does she understand why
her victim wants her for a week instead of putting her in jail when he
discovers her attempting to break into his safe. Jack's deal, one week as
his submissive instead of years in jail, is too tempting for her to turn
down. In Jack's hands, Elena embarks on an odyssey of a different type, to
find herself.
While technically flawless, Jewel Thief lacks the usual emotional connection I normally find in Ellora's Cave quickies. The first chapters are richly detailed, full of emotions, I had no trouble connecting to the characters; however, about midway through the book, the story began to feel rushed and seemed to fall flat. Still, I did enjoy the book as a light escape. The whipping scene could be disturbing to some readers. That's the source of my explicit rating. Otherwise, this is a delightful short romp from the pen of a well-established BDSM writing. Jewel Thief is a very good introduction to Claire Thompson's style of writing.
