Alex is new to college life. Being from a strong, close-knit Greek family, Alex is just a little bit sheltered. He finds a friend in the least likely of places however. Feeling like he’s out of his element, he’s surprise by the instant attraction he feels towards Josh. Josh is a painter who takes one look at Alex and wants to paint him. Can instant attraction be enough? Alex has several issues, the least of which is he doesn’t exactly trust Josh or himself when he’s around Josh. Also, Alex is still in the closet and still learning about his own sexuality, very different from Josh’s out-and-proud nature.

Fae Sutherland has created two very different, but equally as likeable characters. In fact, it is their differences which draw you into the story almost from page one. It kept you wanting to read more and more. Although, some parts did become a bit repetitive, the characterization was just too good to put down. It’s easily understood why Alex is up-tight and just a little bit distrusting of Josh. The fact that he comes from such a close family and is scared to come out to them leads the plot along at the perfect pace. Getting to know Alex’s family a little bit better then was allowed here would have been appreciated, however what was told was absolutely delightful, especially Alex’s mom. Also, I would have liked to see a secondary plotline involving Alex’s sister. She seemed a bit mischievous and that was fun to read when it did appear. So many coming out stories seem to jam their moral down your throat but Joshua’s Muse was the farthest from that. The moral came through clearly without being too loud and in-your-face. Joshua’s Muse is a wonderful romance that will leave no doubts about love and it’s existence.
