It is Francesca’s thirty-fifth birthday and she is beginning a new journal. It has been six months since the theft of her previous diary, a chronicle of twenty years of her life. The violation of someone else reading her thoughts, wishes, desires, and fantasies still stings, but she now feels ready to start anew.

A successful business owner, Francesca has always dreamed of meeting a man who is not intimidated by her success or her strong personality. It is her desire to meet a man who is strong enough to own her. She’s only ever admitted this to her journal, a journal currently in the hands of another.

What Francesca does not realize is that her submission fantasies are about to come true. Four days after her birthday, she receives a call from a woman who claims to know where her journal is. She gives Francesca express orders on what to do if she hopes to recover it, and so begins Francesca’s journey into submission.

Francesca has never contemplated being owned by another woman before and her mind wars against the concept at first. But soon she finds herself slowly warming to the idea; however, further confusion sets in when Francesca meets the man of her dreams. Confident, intelligent, and most importantly, domineering, Francesca knows Rock is the kind of man she’s been waiting for her entire life. But is she willing to be with him at the cost of giving up her escapades with her mistress?

“Journal of Discipline” is one woman’s journey into complete submission. The reader should beware that this is not a romance, but a story about dominance. Many of the experiences of Francesca may serve to upset some readers, as at times she’s subjected to humiliation and sub-human treatment. Another note for potential readers is the amount of lesbian interaction in this story. However, if you are looking for a well-written BDSM tale, this story is for you.

Though Laurie Mann has not made the male dominant to be visually appealing—he is described as a ZZ Top look alike—Mann’s stellar dialogue makes it understandable how Francesca could be attracted to Rock. Laurie Mann has also given us a multi-dimensional character in Francesca. While she loves to be dominated and subjected to harsh treatment, she is also an intelligent woman and successful business owner. The result of such realistic renderings is a story that is believable and entertaining.
