Riana grew up a sheltered, pampered princess. She is also J'Tar, a mythical guardian of the king, and able to shape shift to a large Jaxar cat if needed. She hasn't had to go through the trials that her brothers had, where they go out and live with the pack for a while. It ends up costing her a lot, because when she innocently decides to roam in her cat form while in heat, she ends up getting raped by two Jaxar, and captured by one with a pack. She escapes, but finds out that she is pregnant. The decision is made that she will have the kits in her Jaxar form, and she must go back to the wild for two years. Her life is torn apart, and when she returns, she is a different person altogether. Wild with grief that her kits have left her like any normal cat would do, she continues to search for them. When she meets Arkady, he soothes her in ways no one else has been able to do. Will she be able to accept him as her mate? Or is she permanently damaged from her ordeal?

The writing in Daughter of J'Tar makes this story one that is hard to put down. The characters come to life in the story, and I really cared about what happened to Riana and Arkady. Riana is a wounded soul, who is having a difficult time adjusting to being human again. There are some scenes that were a little hard to accept, but in the context of the story and Riana needing to control the situation I could see how they were needed. There are a lot of unusual sexual scenes in this story, particularly when Riana gets raped and when she makes love to Arkady as a cat. If you are looking for something different, give Daughter of J'Tar a try.
