Lauren Stephens is a talented wildlife artist, living and working at Haverford Castle Center for Canadian Arts. She had the strength to leave her bossy ex-husband Terry, and she is determined to make it on her own. She meets handsome Stephen Wallace and realizes the need for male attention in here life. But Stephen becomes possessive, reminding Lauren of her ex.

A large conglomerate, headed by Jon Rush, has indicated a desire to turn the art center into a spa. Most of the small Ontario town is shocked by this idea. Lauren accidentally decks Jon during what was supposed to be a peaceful protest, and romantic sparks fly.

Someone is trying to sabotage Jon's company. Jon takes his business very seriously -- his father built the company. Lauren is getting mysterious hang-up calls and her paintings and cottage are being destroyed. Are these actions somehow related?

I must admit I was confused about the buyout of the art center. I was never clear on the actual ownership of the reason this site was selected for the spa.

And while the theme of the book was that old sins demand redemption, I'm not certain whether the sins had actually been committed or were only in the mind of a madman.

Lauren and Jon are both well-developed characters and her elderly friends, Paul and Lucy Howard, are delightful. There are healthy doses of danger by fire and car chases to keep the reader enthralled. The author has a somewhat flowery style, but she kept my interest until the end. The romance was believable and the mystery neatly resolved. A good read.
