Laura Ashton has been working as Jake Landon's paralegal and personal secretary for five years, but now it's time to take matters into her own hands. He's a complete slob, pure and simple, and she's tired of it. So when she surprises him with a perfectly clean office, the last thing she expects is the anger and screaming match that ensues.

Jake is furious Laura would take it upon herself to sort through his very organized mess. How's he supposed to find anything in his office now? He figures he shouldn't be surprised, though. If there's one thing Laura Ashton is good at, it's aggravating Jake. That's because they're complete and total opposites. While he strives on breaking all the rules, she's organized and proper. They have nothing in common... except their sizzling, overwhelming attraction to each other.

Marteeka Karland introduces Laura and Jake at their best. As they argue, the passionate attraction between them really sets the tone for the rest of the story. They say opposites attract, and this gem of a novella really brings that saying to life. Taking the familiar setting of a country fair in your average small American town, Ms. Karland then imbues it with all the sexual excitement a reader can handle. The relationship progresses quickly between Laura and Jake, but it never feels forced, and it's obvious they've had feelings for one another for a long time. What better opportunity to let those emotions ignite than on the 4th of July?

For a fast moving, sexy quickie of a story to warm you up on a cold night, look no further than Born on the 4th of July.
