After her best friend is murdered Valerie - not her real name- is sent off to witness protection. Five years have past and Valerie has started a new life and is somewhat happy at this point. Happy until her life is threatened again by the shadows of the past. Alex Naumov, a detective, is assigned to guard her until a new safe place can be established for her.

Alex, a dedicated policemen, had come out of a bad marriage and had a past he wanted to forget also. The two didn't hit it off as well as expected yet even the coldest meetings can turn two people's passions over a time. Together constantly it was bound to happen and soon what happened outside the safety of their bedroom door didn't matter as long as they were together.

A good story that has not only suspense and mystery, but the author has thrown in a few family characters to give us more of an insight to what and who Alex really is. A good read!
