| Zira was carrying secret messages when she was captured by the Ketomir, the enemy. She’d been in a prison ship, and while there she heard in the cell next to her a Thal Warrior that chanted every day and gave her peace. When their ship started to break apart and the prisoners escaped their cells, the last person she wanted to meet was the Warrior, because she’d been told they enjoy killing, and she didn’t want to be his next target. When Tige crash lands on the planet and sees Zira, he knows he has to take care of her. Once she gets over her fear of him, they should be able to survive much better with the two of them together. Once they start, he can’t help but admire her guts and stamina, because even while her lungs are injured she doesn’t complain. There’s something he hasn’t told her about his people that she should know, but he’s worried that it will destroy their fragile trust. Every 14 months they go through the cycle of having to mate or die, called Ken’Ja, and his people have learned to control it with Tava. Unfortunately, stranded on an unknown planet, he’s got no way to hold it back, and Zira is the only woman around… I had a great time reading this story, the Zira and Tige have a lot of chemistry together. One of the best parts of the story was that Zira wasn’t the usual helpless female; if she had too she could have taken care of herself without Tige’s help. Even better, Tige isn’t your typical alpha male, he actually likes that she is capable of handling herself. He’s embarrassed about his problem with Kan’Ja, and it ends up being a life or death battle because he fights it for too long. I thought it was a well written, enjoyable read. Ken’Ja is definitely one to pick up if you are looking for a quick pick me up.
