Judd Romeo was a dare-devil. He rode bulls in the rodeo. His worst nightmare was to draw Bad to the Bone, a 1900 pound Charolais. He was within sight of the million dollar prize as rider of the year—his goal in life. He returned to Eagleton, Kentucky for a time to recover before the final part of the competition. His mom, the only person who really cared for him and understood his mindset, had died and he needed to go back and take care of her things. He also needed to face the one woman he had never been able to forget.

Dr. Mandy Sullivan, at 27 years old, was the town veterinarian. She had her wayward sister’s daughter, 9 year old Mandy. Since her sister never came home, they had no idea where she was. The court had given temporary custody to Mandy. She had no patience for anyone who took unnecessary chances in life. As much as she had cared about Judd, she would never allow herself to love anyone who rode bulls for a living even if he was staying, temporarily, next door..

Ms. Jan Scarbrough has done an exceptional job of telling this story. Her two main characters were vibrant, believable individuals who never got over that high school attraction. Each of them was a success in life, but together, even though the sensuality was dynamic, they were much like oil and water. The conflicts made the love stand out so much more.

While reading, I envisioned several possible conclusions to this great book. I assure you I hadn’t come close to the actual ending. All the characters fit into this storyline perfectly, even when the extra conflict came to light. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who likes strong plots, characters, and fabulous endings. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
