| Alexis Marsden and her eight-year-old son Tyler lived with her mother in a small apartment in town where she worked in an office setting. Before work each morning, Alex went to her Uncle Johnny Marsden’s horse ranch to exercise horses for him. That action kept her sane. Her little boy’s father, Brandon Breckinridge, was recently killed in the war efforts. She was glad she never had to introduce him to Tyler even though the Breckinridge money would have helped.
Jackson Breckinridge was the owner of Greco, the two year old horse that Alex exercised every morning. Jack was ready to go back to Breckinridge Station where he intended to live and rebuild his late grandparents’ ranch. He appeared one morning and saw the way Alex worked his horse. He was impressed even though he thought the trainer was a man. He had come to see her for a very different reason. He made her an offer of marriage. There was so much conflict between these two people that it was dynamic. Of course they married and, of course, that marriage was platonic. There was sizzling chemistry between them however. Her mother, who previously had been the housekeeper for Jack’s grandparents, and her son, Tyler, were thrilled to live on a horse ranch. Alex did her best trying to get along, but that couldn’t go smoothly. The characters, all of them, were believable and exciting. The tension was strong. It was as if I was looking through the window. There was no way I could get bored reading about this marriage of convenience. How this couple found their happily ever after led us down several roads with lots of turns. I knew they would end up together, but I couldn’t have imagined how. My love of Ms. Scarbrough’s work has only increased after reading this book. She is quickly becoming a must read for me. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
