| Gabrielle Cody is a paladin, a warrior for God. Her job is to fight evil, and she's very good at what she does. But lately she's distracted by Detective Luther Cross. Detective Cross fights evil as well, but he and Gaby have very different methods. Luther is in love with Gaby and is worried about her because there's something very evil stalking the streets, and Gaby is somehow connected to it. Will she be able to fulfill her calling? Or will her love for Luther be her downfall?
Servant: The Kindred was a great blend of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. I haven't read the other books in this series, but that wasn't a problem in my opinion - I still enjoyed this one and never felt confused or as though I was missing something. It did take a couple of chapters for me to really get into this book, but once I did, I was seriously hooked. Ms. Foster did a great job of creating realistic characters and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. Gaby is a wonderful combination of innocence and cynicism, and Luther was a surprise to me as the hero because he wasn't the typical alpha male. But I still thought he was totally sexy. Luther was able to let Gaby take the lead at times and defer to her expertise when it was obvious that she knew what she was doing. The villain was very creepy, and his connection to Gaby provided suspense and a real twist to the ending. Luther and Gaby had a wonderful chemistry, and the love scenes were erotic and emotionally satisfying. Servant The Kindred was a fast-paced paranormal thriller with an engaging love story. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
