Morocco, 1893 - Allegra Synnford is one of the most sought-after courtesans in Europe. After being raised in a brothel, she determined that never again would anyone control her. So the lovers she takes are solely by her choice.

Sheik Shaheen takes one look at Allegra and vows to have her. His desire for her threatens to undermine his control, something he can't afford. If his political enemies were to discover his true identity, it could result in a war. But the passion these two share is explosive, and neither one is prepared for the consequences.

Kismet is an excellent example of this genre. Ms. Burns has obviously done her research, and the result is an incredibly sensual tale that takes you back in time and makes you feel as though you are there in the desert, a part of the story.

From the first chapter, Kismet drew me in and I didn't want to stop reading. The characters came to life and I found myself utterly captivated. This is not a cliché "harem romance", but an emotionally intense love story that happens to have as its hero a man who bears the title "Sheik".

Allegra is a fiercely courageous woman who has overcome obstacles that might have destroyed someone weaker. She also happens to be incredibly intelligent, with a sharp wit. Shaheen is a man who has been forced to deal with his own tragedies, and has hardened his heart as a result. So when he falls, he falls hard.

The story idea was original and everything seemed to work together to create a tale that is, in my opinion, a must-read for any fan of historical fiction. I was so emotionally invested that by the end of the book, I was in tears and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what would happen next, while at the same time wanting to slow down so the story wouldn't end!

Monica Burns has brought to life a story world that you won't want to miss.
