Edmund Fitz Clare has secrets. A mild mannered professor who hates sunlight by day he turns into a wolf shifting vampire at night. Estelle Berenger has loved him since she was fifteen. When their love seems about to come to light the war between the vampire classes heats up. Graham, Edmund's adopted son, finds out his secret when he's recruited by Li-Hua, a power hungry vampire who wants to rule the upyrs and the world. Their world seems about to come crashing down on their heads at any time from one source or another.

Emma Holly builds an erotic tale of love and intrigue that's complex and fascinating. The characters who fill the pages make us adore or loathe them. Ben and Sally, two of his adopted children, find that they share feelings hard to control. Estelle and Edmund share feelings that are hotter than the pages seem able to handle without catching on fire as their feelings for one another are shared.

The author gives us all the variations in human nature in a story that will keep us reading not only this installment but others in the series. The bad guys and girls use every trick in their repertoire to try to take down Edmund and destroy the love his family feels for him. There's suspense to keep us guessing and romance that will keep us enchanted. Family dynamics are an important part of the tale that Ms. Holly makes both complicated and simple. It's a classic battle between love and hate, sometimes inside the characters as they grow through their feelings. This is great reading for all fans of the paranormal.
