| Though only related by his mother's marriage to her uncle, Taran has tried to keep his feelings for Lark contained, afraid of her reaction to them. What he doesn't know is that Lark has been having the same problem with her feelings for him. Only after she has been put in harm's way do they act on their feelings. They just have to decide if what they might have will be worth the possible ramifications.
From the very beginning, the connection between Taran and Lark sizzles and draws readers into the story. The subplot, though, provides additional suspense and gives Taran a good reason to keep Lark close to him, forcing them to face their feelings. The tenderness he shows her when he convinces her to stay with him highlights just how much he cares for her. It is a good thing as the same can be said of Lark, making them perfectly suited for each other. When the two of them finally act on their mutual desire, everything around them fades away in the face of the blazing heat. And though it may seem like it takes a while for the story to progress to that point, the pacing fits the overall story and keeps it moving from start to finish. I enjoyed everything about this story and am extremely satisfied with the ending.
