Sherra became Kane's lover eight years ago while in the Council's lab. Afterwards, he disappeared and she assumed he was just like the Council members', seeing her as nothing but an animal to be used. She became pregnant that night, but miscarried and was later raped by some of the soldiers in the lab. She carries scars from all of that, including Kane's disappearance. Now he's back and she's learned that he was badly injured that night and unable to come back for her. Nor did he look for her because he assumed she had died. He lives within the Breeds' compound, and seems to take every chance to antagonize Sherra. It's worse now because she's gone into her yearly heat, and has trouble containing herself around him. She can't stand another's touch while in heat, knows she could only stand his. But she will not open herself up to more hurt, nor can she subject Kane to the same kind of intense pain that the sexual hormone creates in her.

Kiss of Heat is the awaited tale of Kane and Sherra. When I first read of them as secondary characters, I needed to know what had happened, and what would happen, if anything. And I'm glad to say the story didn't disappoint. Some of the confusion about the mating of Breeds isn't apparent in the story line, which I liked. There was no angst over what was going on. Instead, Kane and Sherra went into it with their eyes wide open. The sparring between Kane and Sherra was sometimes irritating because it seemed so stubborn, but at the same time, it also raised the sexual tension between them, which was very hot throughout the book. I may have enjoyed the action in the story more than the romance, but all of it was great. Kiss of Heat is another enjoyable story in the Breeds series, and the ending was fantastic. It left the series open to at least two more books, and took the tension between the Breeds and their enemies up a few notches. Now I just want to stamp my foot and demand the next book immediately.
