| Take a thirty year-old kitchen witch who loves to cook just coming into her powers. Although Aidan is not a very good cook, she loves it, and, unfortunately, her powers are actually making her kitchen disasters that much worse. Add one Skills Assessor, Matteus, and make him hard to resist. Combine well and wait for the sparks to fly.
Foodies Guide to Kitchen Magic is a fun story, taking place almost entirely in Aidan's kitchen. The characters seem to be a bit lonely early on and it only seems right for them to turn to one another. Maybe it's the magic. There's also a lot of yummy sounding cooking that leads the reader to hope that Aidan will be able to get it right, because there's a lot of potential there. Almost as much potential as there is in the electricity between Matteus and Aidan. I liked the way Aidan's culinary experiments carried the plot forward. Her joy in her efforts surpassed her frequently disappointing results. And her enjoyment of the glossy magazine photos and cookbooks, her hope for a happier future. Such optimism was a pleasure to share.
