Kitty Murphy has built her hair salon from scratch, poured her heart and soul into it. Now handsome Harrison Wentworth and his company want her space for a high priced office and retail complex. All of the money he has to offer can't change what she’s losing in her personal life. She watches her drug addict son get pulled further away from her and the woman carrying his baby.

Dara Edmonson has done a terrific job building Kitty as a woman struggling to do the right thing for her friends, clients and family. Harrison has always had money but so did the father of Kitty’s son, Josh. Peter and his family did nothing to help her as a young, pregnant woman. Neither did her family. They shunned her for her ‘moral values’ when she became pregnant. The author gives Kitty the strength to make Harrison prove he’s willing to accept her and her life as it is before she’ll even think of being a part of his.

There is sadness as we watch Josh struggle with his drug addiction. No amount of love seems to be able to help him. In contrast Kitty and Brooke, who has lost both parents in a car wreck, bond in their love for Josh and the innocent child.

All I can say is Wow! Ms. Edmondson has really built a superb story of life and the tough choices people make. Secondary characters add even more depth as the story unfolds. Luis and Anthony, a hairdresser and his lover add a little humor and true friendship. Pam, deli owner next door battles cancer and sells her place first. Fannie is a true friend and mentor who helps her make her decision on whether to sell. Maryann, Harrison’s wise secretary, helps him understand women along the way. Sarah, an abused wife struggles with her decisions and her life.

Through all the sadness runs some pesky kittens, some great friendships and new beginnings that help hold it all together. This author really knows how to write a great story from first page to last.
