| After the death of her parents, Kitty is left with the responsibility of her six siblings. Due to bad choices made by her parents they are evicted and left penniless. It is up to Kitty to find a way for them all to live and survive.
Anne Whitfield has written a heart-wrenching story about a young girl that must face many trials in order for her family to survive. Emotionally intense, it was hard not to weep out loud for all that this family must endure. The character of Kitty is strong and intelligent. She is someone to admire for how she takes responsibility for her younger siblings. For Kitty, she will find sweet romance but even here things do not go smoothly. It seems at times she just can not win. Emotionally enthralling, this story captures the reader's interest and doesn't let go. You will want to know how everything turns out and will hope that Kitty gets what she deserves for all her hard work and loyalty. This is a story to lose yourself in, so plan carefully when you decide to read. You will not want to put it down. Historically fascinating, this story takes place in year 1864 in the city of York, England. The settings come to life for the reader through the descriptive words of the author. This is not the glamorous life of regency romances but the life of the working-class poor. This is a story about a struggle to survive and stay together, just one step away from the poorhouse. Kitty McKenzie is an emotionally stirring story of love; love of family, of friends, and for that special someone. I highly recommend this story to all readers.
