| Labyrinth of the Beast is an aptly named novella by Desiree Acuna. She has taken several common myths and twisted them together to form the basis of her world. A world filled with symbolism and a bit of magic; a world made believable by the extensive use of visual descriptions and an ability to draw the reader into the story.
Lilith, her heroine is so believable that I found myself wanting to be her friend. She is a common woman made strong and independent by circumstances and necessity. Her unexpected journey gives her experiences, that her somewhat sheltered life would never have afforded her, opening her life to a new perspective and great possibilities. Gaelen is not your typical hero, at times he seems unsure as to how to play the part. He also appears to be battling himself as he tries various methods to reach his ultimate goal. Desiree Acuna has done an excellent job of creating a fantasy world and making it very believable. I found myself drawn completely into the story and wanting desperately for Lilith and Gaelen to put all their many differences aside and be together as a couple. I was anxious to reach the end of the story and then once I had; I wanted there to be more. I look forward to new worlds created by Desiree Acuna.
