| In 1813, women were not allowed to make decisions on their own. One woman decided to take charge of her life and not allow any man to tell her what to do or where to go; the fact that she was the granddaughter of the Earl of Manchester just made it that much more public. Lady Christina Delafield was sick of being told what to do, where to go, and who with. After her latest escapade, her grandfather intended to send her to an elite ladies’ school in Switzerland. Determined not to go, Christina stowed aboard a ship bound for the Grand Bahamas where her Aunt Mary lived, owned her own business, and did not take orders from anyone. That was the life Christina wanted!
Drexell Cain was the oldest of twins whose mother turned to prostitution when their father did not marry her when she became pregnant; their father, Drex would find out was the Earl of Ashmont who had no knowledge of their birth until many years later and had looked for both of them since. Ryan, the younger twin, was married with a son; he was an adventurer and was imprisoned by the Earl of Manchester for political reasons. Drex’s search for, and release of, Ryan became his goal in life as he took on the persona of Black Dragon on The Dragon’s Lair. The Black Dragon planned to try to blackmail the Earl to get Ryan released from prison. Incredibly, this was the ship Christina boarded, but neither knew the other’s agenda or even the true identity. Ms. Shelley Bradley created wonderful characters in Christina and Drex; the other characters were believable and understandable. The plot presented was full of sensual situations, as well as tension in and around each person. The book offered a fresh plot with lots of action and conflict. Christina and Drex were each in more trouble and trauma than either expected. Ms. Bradley has exhibited her great writing skill and her wonderful story-telling ability. I heartedly recommend this book!
