| LADY DRAGON begins in the year 1313 with the Scots attacking Ambellshire. The overlord of this estate is Lord Merrick. Lord Merrick and his son have come to help beat off the attack. Edmund, heir to Ambellshire, and his twin sister, Celeste, are in the keep with their mother. Geoffrey, Lord Merrick s younger brother, fetches them. They go down to the stables . The twins end up locked in the stable and Sir Geoffrey takes their mother away. The stables catch on fire and the twins manage to escape through a rotting board. Celeste finds her mother with her throat cut right in front of the keep.
Now, we jump forward to the year 1324. Edmund was killed in a raid six months ago. Celeste has taken her brother's place as lord of the estate, only because Ambellshire is the only home she has ever known and she knows the estate will pass to Sir Geoffrey. Celeste has done what she had to in order to protect her people. The raids by the Scots have not stopped. Celeste has trained in the art of war and whenever the Scots come, Celeste is in the thick of the fighting. While in the midst of a raid, the overlord appears. Lord Merrick died and his son inherited. Devon has not appeared in Ambellshire since the time Celeste's mother was killed. Now Devon is here demanding to see Edmund. At the time of the raid, Devon was courting a woman he hoped to marry. When he was finally able to go back to her, he found she had married another. His memories of Ambellshire are all wrapped up in his lost love and he has not returned since. After the death of his father, he has been attempting to get Edmund to swear fealty. Devon was put off with one excuse after another and has finally decided to go to Ambellshire and confront the man in person. Naturally, he s put off again with one excuse after another. How long will Celeste be able to put off Devon? Will he leave without seeing Edmund? Will he uncover her deception? And what about the raids? Who is behind them? Jewell has done a wonderful job with LADY DRAGON. In this story, we have the privilege of watching Celeste come to terms with her past. Celeste has always felt her mother abandoned her and she is forced to come to terms with this. Due to the raid, she never learned any so-called feminine skills. She has excelled in the art of war and defense and is forced to accept her inadequacies. Devon has never really gotten over his first love but finds himself becoming more and more attracted to Celeste. He can't understand why the Scots are still raiding Ambellshire and intends on finding out what s going on and why. The settings are all described in a realistic manner, right down to the keep's kitchens. LADY DRAGON is a wonderful story that will take you back in time as you discover love and treachery. I highly recommend this story to all lovers of medieval romance.
