Charlotte Stuart constantly battled mixed feelings. She told everyone she was totally against marriage, but she really wanted someone to love her. She had thought she was in love, but was left heartbroken when she realized the man she planned to marry had betrayed her. She was determined to not allow anyone else to hurt her. Her fortune attracted some men, but none that she was interested in.

Charlotte’s aunt and uncle, Charles and Mary Stuart, took her in when her parents died. She was now a wealthy woman who used her money and influence for charity purposes, especially the St. Dustan’s Charitable Hospital. She met many influential men during these charity events but she refused to become a bank balance for any man—until she met Edward Woodcliff.

Sparks flew when the two met. Even though he was (supposedly) looking to marry money, Charlotte could not ignore Edward. The entire ton was aware of the antagonistic way the two dealt with each other. Was it possible that there was too much friction for them to even be friendly?

Ms. Georgie Lee has done a great job of writing this multi-faceted story about a couple who each had secrets but who were actually interested in the other. Her characters are so convincing that it feels as if the reader is right in the midst of the activities. However, it would be a mistake to believe that you have the story figured out before you get to the end.

There are highs and lows throughout this book but it is a great work and all readers will be glad to have found it. I can say that lovers of Regency Romances will be especially thrilled with the outcome of this book. I highly recommend it to all. You will not be sorry to have read it.
