Will, Devin and Henry were best friends as boys; they are now known as Sir Will Burnett of Dunburough Castle, Lord Devin of Ravenstone, and King Henry. Even though they continued their pranks as young men, Will and Devin were always aware of Henry’s position of respect.

Will was commissioned to go the Abbey and take guardianship of a daughter of Sir Marlow, a friend of the king’s reign. In his mind Will was expecting to transport a child, not a woman of marriage age. She had been at the convent for over a year and had done nothing but cause trouble. She climbed through a window in the roof of her room to escape when she found out she had to go with Will. His first view of Lady Prudence Marlow was of a woman who was dirty, with torn clothing from her escape attempt.

During the trip to Dunburough, Prudence and Will, along with 40 soldiers, traveled on horseback; she ran away again, which caused lost time because the men had to search for her. She stumbled upon Lord Devin and Will found her, luckily with friend not foe. The entire group continued the travel together, while Will and Devin renewed their friendship.

Lady Prudence was adamant about her resolve to stay unwed. Her father, and King Henry, had sent her to the convent because of her refusal to wed. Sir Marlow, Prudence’s father, would leave his entire fortune and station in life, to the man who married Prudence, his first-born. Because she had seen so much suffering by her mother, she declared no man would ever have that hold over her. The only way she knew to keep that from happening was to refuse to marry.

While staying with Will and his sister Lydia at Dunburough, many problems arose until Prudence “changed” when she fell in love with Will. What a fairy-tale! What an incredible love story. I laughed and I cried. I loved this book so much I was not ready for it to end. Read it for yourself. You won’t be sorry.
