Detective Dani "Nails" Cole is always under suspicion by bosses and fellow officers. As a dirty cop her dad tainted her with his activities. Reginald "Tift" Tifton is the only policeman she can depend on as a serial killer threatens her. James Mitchell Sheridan is a world famous photographer who won't take pictures any more. When his mentor and best friend, Russell Sanders, becomes a victim he and Dani have to join forces. In spite of residual feelings from young love gone bad the two are still attracted to one another.

Kate Brady wowed me with her first book. If possible, this one is even better. We're suspicious of a bunch of people as the book progresses. Many seem capable of being the villain. The characters are exceptionally well developed. We watch them go from insecure, often reclusive because of circumstances in their lives, to shine as hero and heroine. They're so human with their frailties and strengths that it makes them easier to relate to. The bad guys are another story. The lives of those we suspect have been filled with all the perks that come with their lifestyles. Yet they turn to despicable deeds wanting more. This author is superb at building a book full of humanness without being overbearing or distracting us from the suspense that thrills us in the best mysteries. The tale of surrogate mothers and babies for sale has been done a lot lately but Ms. Brady keeps this one fresh with a new spin on things. The characters and plot development make this book stand out among the crowd. Brady has me hooked on her work so I look forward to her next book.
