A familiar plot where the hero and heroine set forth on a quest in search of objects of power to save the kingdom is made new by the exciting action and the surprising magical elements described in the story. Unlike most fantasy fiction of this type the characters display a surprising amount of emotions. There are tears shed as the characters grieve and the reader feels the deaths of friends and family as they take place in the story. The relationship between Joran and Maelis grows very slowly which is sensible because Joran must prove trustworthy. It is heartbreaking to see Joran struggle to show how much he loves Maelis and not have his feelings openly returned. There is humor added as Joran lightheartedly teases Maelis. This is needed when things begin to look bleak. The reader will find themselves laughing along with the characters. When the long awaited first kiss happens the reader’s heart will rejoice that they finally are admitting how they feel. I found myself caught up in the character’s emotions and losing myself in the story. Readers may want to set a special time aside to read because time will lose meaning as you anxiously await the conclusion of this exciting story. Throughout the story there is the violence of battle. Wonderful sword clashing bloody violence, so if a little beheading or evisceration bothers you then you may have difficulty reading this very exciting action adventure. But if you enjoy a good fight this story is filled with them. Thrilling battles that will stir the blood and have the reader holding their breath waiting the outcome. Nuermar’s Last Witch is a wondrously magical adventure in a battle against good and evil, A.E. Rought has created a fantasy world that opens the door to love and passion. Readers will be able to experience a world like no other filled with amazing creations that will leave them in awe.
