Cal Riker has a reputation as a fast gun that always remains standing. Ten years ago, he killed a judge in Texas and was forced to leave home never to return. No one questioned his decision to ride with the River Bend Outfit when they robbed the train. He did not, however, approve of the leader, Ferris Norton, kidnapping the beautiful young woman off the train. Somehow he had to protect her from this band of outlaws.

Laurel Daniels never thought she would have any trouble returning home after visiting her grandmother. Her fear increased when she saw the one called Cal offering his part of the robbery for her. Instead of seven men, there would only be one but somehow that did not ease her mind.

Ms. Emma Wildes is well known for her highly sensual romances. Reading one will never be enough. I find myself drawn toward anything with her name on it. She certainly did not disappoint me this time. Both Cal and Laurel are strong characters who have lives extremely opposite each other. That did not, however, keep the two apart.

The circumstances under which the two became intimate were a bit far-fetched, but Laurel was as strong-willed as Cal. The sensual scenes were well written and gave steam to the manuscript. They did not, though, dominate the storyline or detract from the love story that was developed. There were other love situations woven throughout this story by some who were initially barely mentioned. That did not overshadow the core couple or the surprises tucked into the book.

As I mentioned previously, I have an admiration for Ms. Wildes’ work. I would recommend adding her to your automatic read files. This book, Lawless, certainly promotes that theory. The book tells of a couple who, despite their differences, found a beautiful outcome. The story was told as Ms. Wildes does so well. I highly recommend the book for a great read. You definitely will be glad you have read it.
