| Grace Maitland is up for auction. All she wants is to get her daughter Emma back so she is hoping that her pretend-husband Danny will be willing to bid on her. Turns out, Danny is not bidding. As Grace stands before the men, fearing never to see Emma again, someone finally bids. It is Interstellar Federal Lawman Jonathan Brent who comes to her rescue. She is shocked to say the least. He is the man she shared an intimate kiss with in an elevator several years before. In fact, since that kiss, he has been the epitome of manhood in her mind.
Jonathan knows his life as a lawman is not fit for a wife and family, but he cannot leave Grace at the auction to suffer under the hands of the Tiberius Group. So he bids and gets not only a wife but a ready made family. But with new rules being overturned and the past being brought back into Grace’s life with painful results, Jonathan and Grace must try to find a way to stay together in spite of the obstacles the Tiberius Group is throwing in their way. Now that Jonathan has found a woman to complete him, he will let nothing stand in the way of their happiness. The Lawman’s Wife is another exciting adventure in Lara Santiago’s the Wives Tales. Jonathan and Grace are both survivors in a world that has gone haywire. They do what they have to do to stay together, stay a family, and even if sometimes those actions are not always legal or safe, they do what they need to do. I enjoyed finding out more about the Tiberius Group also. For all the changes the Group caused, it added a lot of needed intensity and challenge to Jonathan and Grace’s relationship. They are a compatible couple who have never quite had the family they yearned for. Ms. Santiago finally gives them that chance and it is warmhearted, energetic and touching. Amidst a backdrop of dire changes for women, Grace, Jonathan and Emma forge a strong and effective union. They are not immune to the realities of life, but with love on their side, they are able to challenge the system in their own way.
