Morgan Edwards is a veterinarian intrigued by the mysterious appearance of a big, black dog following her around on her vacation in Wales. The same dog appears in front of her practice back in Spokane just in time to save her, and she can do no less for him when he's injured doing so.

Rhys is a Celtic warrior who has spent centuries trapped in the form of a black dog, ever since he ran into the Fair Ones while trying to escape Roman soldiers. When he sees Morgan, though, he decides to step in and change her fate. Now his fate rests in her hands.

Both lead characters are absolutely charming. Morgan's goodness shines through her every action, especially toward animals. Her concern and care for Rhys as a dog releases the man. The question that has to be answered in the story is whether or not that caring can extend to the human Rhys. For his part, Rhys does what he can to show Morgan that he is a man worthy of her affection. His actions are meant to put her at ease with the situation they find themselves in and to help her accept who and what he is.

Though the characters and their chemistry together make the story what it is, the mystical element is what really drew me in. Dani Harper does a fabulous job of weaving the Tylwyth Teg into her story to enrich it and give it a marvelous background. Her use of the mythology about the Fair Ones also provides for a few unexpected twists in the story that make it that much more intriguing. Anyone interested in old Celtic lore and stories of the Fae will definitely enjoy what she has done here.

This is a very enjoyable and quick read. The short length necessitates a fast pace but it fits the story, even allowing Morgan time to accept the reality of what Rhys tells her. The only thing that could have made this story any better is more of it.
