| A bookish PhD candidate in literature and an ex-stripper PhD candidate in dance are about as unlikely a pair as anyone could imagine. Leanne is intent on earning her degree and a prestigious prize will ensure her a successful career. Her mother is disappointed that she's not capable of following in her beauty queen footsteps but her father supports her efforts. Attending the bachelorette party of the daughter of her mother's friends brings Leanne and Brandon together at a local strip club. He is usually the manager, but a sick employee forces him to go back onstage where he attracts the attention of the would-be bride. Gillian is determined to meet him, but Leanne intercepts the note and Brandon. They could not be more different, or are they?
Leanne and Brandon are total opposites in some ways. They come from completely different backgrounds. His job as a strip club manager and former stripper are way out of her realm of experience but the two of them connect in many different ways. The author does a great job of developing their friendship and their relationship. The difference in their backgrounds is illustrated in a few instances and I loved the way they interacted, not just romantically. The love scenes are very well done and the university setting is very well described. Gillian makes an excellent and petty villain, showing that her beauty is worth a lot less than Leanne's substance. The final scenes are inevitable but cleverly written. This is a very entertaining read.
