Katie Morrison was facing her 15th year class reunion. Her small town of Glen Meadow was a place where no secrets were kept from anyone! Lots of things had happened to Katie in the past 15 years; a lost first-love, a no-show groom who stole all her money, the death of her grandmother, and she lived it all ‘front and center” for all the town to see! Now, just before she finally graduated from college with a degree which took her 8 years to complete, her long-lost first, and only, love returned to town. Jeffrey James McAlester (Jeff) broke Katie’s heart and she had never forgotten him. Imagine how she felt when she saw him again after 15 years!

Jeff was back home! When he saw Katie again, he knew that he still loved her. But since he escaped Chicago to come back home to her, how was he supposed to convince her not to take the teaching job she was contracted to do which was right back in Chicago (where he knew she would not be happy)? He had only a few weeks to convince her that she should change her plans and stay with him!

Ms. Meg Allison writes an excellent story of Katie and Jeff, with other characters involved who were introduced in two other “Blue Plate Special: Pop’s Girls novel” offerings which involved two other of Katie’s friends and their lonely states of mind. I did not read these two, which I am sure would be equally wonderful reads; however, that did not detract from the storyline of Learning to Love. While it would probably be fun to read all three together, I loved this one on its own! Ms. Allison presents a strong female character that, even though she obviously is in love, refuses to be dominated by the strong male character. It is wonderful to see that compromise does not necessarily mean the woman has to give up her dreams! Kudos to Ms. Allison for allowing the situation to be handled so that, even though there is a happy ending, it is totally unexpected!
