Janie Norene Lowell, twenty-seven, astrological sign, Cancer, flees her abusive ex-fiancé with no plans to become attached to anyone again. She is cautious, never to drop her guard in any town she chooses to stay. That was before she met Myles, who does something to her equilibrium. After taking a job at Mom and Pops Diner, she begins to learn many things about herself and life itself. Myles Channing keeps busy with his hardware store and the self-defense classes he teaches. After meeting Janie, he immediately feels an attraction for her. He would like to get her out of that shell and learn why she is so indifferent toward men. If he can show her there are some trustworthy men in the world, he might have a chance, but neither expected the arrival of her ex-fiancé.

Learning to Trust is a sweet romance equipped with a prince who will do everything in his power to woo the young princess' heart. Janie is a very likeable character that the reader cannot help but care for as she sheds her shyness and insecurities to gain confidence. She is a great inspiration to everyone who has suffered some form of abuse in their lives. Miles is a winner as he steps in, after Janie captures his heart. He is determined to prove to her that not all men are scoundrels. Ms. Hamby pens a well-written delight that will charm readers. She transports the reader into a town that comes alive with activity with Mom and Pops Diner, along with the nurture and love they show to the people who work there. The small town, the secondary characters and the whole ambiance makes this story believable and heart-warming. Throw in a pair of elderly sisters who even suggest the mayor eat his vegetables and you have a hometown with heart, soul and love.
